Hopefuls audition for music scholarships

Every year on the Saturday before Presidents’ Day and on Presidents’ Day, SIUE’s Department of Music holds music scholarship auditions. The competitive process affords students the opportunity to display their skills and possibly have those talents rewarded financially.

According to Audrey Tallant, department chair and professor of music, over 50 students responded to this year’s call for auditions.

All students seeking admission into SIUE’s Department of Music are required to audition. The department allows auditions throughout the year; however, the department sets aside two days annually for scholarship hopefuls.

“The music department accepts students through the audition process only – that is how we maintain our high standards,” explained Tallant. “We award a few different scholarships ranging from Provost to Friends of Music.”

Scholarship information and applications are available on the music department’s Web site.
