Faculty members nominate students for the STELLAR Student program, which recognizes, honors and develops “some of the star student achievers” of the College of Arts and Sciences,” according to the STELLAR website.

Bowers said being selected as a STELLAR Student is an honor.

“It just takes a lot of hard work, dedication and support…,” Bowers said. “[My wife] helps take care of things, keep things moving so I can just focus on schoolwork. It’s good to have good back up, good support.”

Bowers said he originally planned to major in construction management, but talked with friends in the geography department and thought it sounded interesting. He also said geography relates military intelligence, which he would like to do in the military.

Bowers said his uncle was in military intelligence has special forces and it “sounded very interesting.”

Future plans for Bowers include interning with the National Geospatial Intelligence Agency and going into the Army National Guard. The internship will be an analyst position, which Bowers said involves looking at satellite imagery and interpreting data. He will begin the internship at the end of May.

His interests outside of school include running, paintballing, riding dirt bikes and spending time with his family.
