December’s novel for the department of English Language and Literature’s Year of the Book is Holidays on Ice by David Sedaris.

Holidays on Ice by David SedarisHolidays on Ice is a collection of essays about Christmas. The collection includes “SantaLand Diaries,” in which Sedaris gives an account of his experiences working as an elf at Macy’s; “Front Row Center with Thaddeus Bristol,” which reviews an elementary school’s Christmas pageant; and “Christmas Means Giving,” in which families compete over who is more generous, among other essays.

SIUE students, faculty, staff, and area residents may purchase the novel at the University Bookstore and receive a 20 percent discount during the month of December. The book is also held at the Lovejoy Library and the Edwardsville Public Library.
