Our November edition of This Month in CAS (TMIC) comes to you with some great information as we approach the Holiday season.

You can read about an innovative new radio theater program on WSIE, “Academia Underground” which is about the events and people at a “fictitious” Midwestern university. Apparently, there are many interesting happenings at Aurum University, and our student actors are at the heart of it all. Read also about a program supporting women in “Support the Girls” and how Dr. Alicia Alexander from Applied Communication Studies is helping direct this effort to provide essential everyday products to local area women in need.

Our faculty spotlight falls on new faculty member Dr. Corey Ragsdale in Anthropology, whose research tries to understand human migration in light of cultural transformations that impart pressure on communities to move.

Finally, we are pleased to announce two great lectures that will occur in the next month. First, our own Dr. Jason Stacy from Historical Studies will present his 2017 Going Lecture, “Spoon River America: Edgar Lee Masters, the Midwest, and the Myth of Small Town America.” where he looks at how much of the mythology concerning small-town rural America emerged. The lecture will be at 7:00 pm on Tuesday, November 28^th, in the Maple/Dogwood room of the Morris University Center. In addition, the Department of Chemistry will present the inaugural Kevin Johnson Memorial Lecture featuring environmental chemist Dr. Jorge Gardea-Torresdey who will talk on “From Gold Phytomining to the Fate of Nanoparticles in Terrestrial Plants: Synchrotron-based Studies.” On Thursday, December 7^th. I’m looking forward to them both!
