A Message from The Dean

Our new edition of This Month in CAS (TMIC) proves that we are doing our best to have TMIC live up to its name- two months in a row and counting! Once again, you will be able to read about the great faculty, events, and programs in our College.

We are pleased to celebrate the impact of the life and extraordinary career of Katherine Dunham with an exhibition that is currently in Lovejoy Library. That exhibit will be displayed until October 23rd, so I hope you have the chance to take the time to enjoy it.

Our College hosts a number of great events and this month is no exception. Last week was the 17th annual Sculpture Walk that brings together both our campus and the Edwardsville community in an outstanding event every year. Next week, we are pleased to host the 12th annual Undergraduate Philosophy Conference, where some of the top undergraduate philosophy students in the country present papers. Thanks to our student Philosophy organization, the Lyceum, for doing all the work for hosting a great event.

Our new faculty spotlight shines both a member of the Department of Mass Communications, Dr. Ashton Gerding Speno, and her recently published work focusing on depictions of women in the media, along with Dr. Kevin Tucker from the Department of Chemistry finding funding from Sigma Xi to support students and their undergraduate research projects.

Until next month, when we go for three in a row, here’s This Month in CAS

Best wishes,

Dean of CAS College of Arts and Sciences Gregory Budzban
