Art-A-Thon 2013

SIUE students sing in the MUC art galleryTuesday April 23, SIUE students and faculty took part in the 2013 Art-A-Thon. This all day celebration explores the art in the college of arts and sciences by showcasing various artistic demonstrations and activities across the various CAS diciplines.

The festivities were kicked off with a flash mob style performance organized by Aldemaro Romero in conjunction with the Department of Theater and Dance and the Department of Music. The performance was set up so that initially what appeared to be a string quartet performance rapidly exploded into a full orchestra, choir, and dance number as musician and dancers appeared out of the woodwork.

The Department of Music showed up in force for the day organizing a vocal concert in the Morris University Center Gallery, a performance by SIUE Steel, and a concert in Dunham Hall featuring the SIUE Concert band and the SIUE Wind Symphony. The Department of Art and Design hosted a BFA exhibition, a ceramics exhibition, as well as metal working and graphic design demonstrations. The art department also sold buttons and mugs as a precursor to the weekend’s pottery and glass sale. Mass Communications featured a number of selections from their upcoming documentary program, “Kaleidoscope,” throughout the day.
