The Department of Social Work Presents: The Seventh Annual Scholarship Gala
Saturday March 16, 2013 the SIUE Department of Social Work hosted their seventh annual scholarship gala. The evening included dinner, dancing, a silent auction, and a celebration of the hard working faculty, students, and alums from the social work department.
The annual gala raises funds for in-house scholarships for current SIUE social work students. The idea for the gala originated with former department chair Venessa Brown after keynote speaking at a similar event for Jackson University. The gala is by design entirely self funded and has proven very successful over the years with student scholarship awards increasing over time.
“It’s just a matter of believing, if you believe in it then it can happen,” Brown shared, “I’m so please to see it where it is today.”
The gala also honors alums, local social work organizations, as well as accomplished individuals in the field through a number of additional awards.
“I think it’s about highlighting any volounteer work and involvement in the community,” undergraduate scholarship award winner Amy Nosbisch shared.
