New Approaches to the Study of Marine Mammals: Available Now
Dean Aldemaro Romero’s fifteenth book is now available. Titled “New Approaches to the Study of Marine Mammals,” the book is a collection of articles documenting modern and cross disciplinary methods for the study of marine mammals.
When approached to be the editor for the book Romero’s one condition was that the could co-edit the book with his long time colleague Edward Keith (NOVA Oceanographic Institute). Keith passed away suddenly during the completion of the work.
“I always wanted to write a book with him but we had never gotten around to it,” Romero shared.
The ten chapter volume has a strong environmental component, with many of the articles touching on how human activities are affecting aquatic life, and have done so over time. The contributing authors were chosen for their cross-disciplinary approaches to research which provide new insight into well documented problems.
“What grabbed my attention was that different authors in different sub fields were using new techniques and technologies,” Romero said, “The book has this novelty flavor in terms of approaches taken to different sub fields of marine mammalogy.”
In keeping with Romero’s personal beliefs that scientific information should be free to access the book is avalible for free online through Intech publishing (http://www.intechopen.com/books/new-approaches-to-the-study-of-marine-mammals).
“I think it’s great that we can now make these publications openly available,” Romero shared, “One of these things we’ve done here in CAS is to make the journal Polymath free online so that authors don’t have to pay to get published and readers don’t have to pay to access the information.”
