SIUE Department of Social Work’s Sixth Annual Scholarship Gala
Saturday March 24, 2012, SIUE social work faculty, students, and supporters gathered in the Meridian Ballroom for the sixth annual social work scholarship gala. Under the guidance of master of ceremonies Steve Jankowski, director of alumni affairs for SIUE Alumni Association, the evening included dinner, cocktails, and a silent auction to raise money for next year’s scholarship awards.
Keynote speaker for the evening was Theresa Wilson, founder and executive director of the Blessing Basket Project. Wilson’s presentation shared the impact social workers had on her life as a foster child and how those experiences helped her in founding her own charity organization. The Blessing Basket Project is a non-profit organization that pays significantly higher than fair trade wages to artisans over a given period of time to help them start their own businesses and establish independent streams of income.
This years award recipients included: Holly Kish, David Crouthers, Ella Duncan, Sandy Crawford, LaNette Heselton, Laticia Georgie, and The William M. BeDell Achievement and Resource Center.
