Medals are an art exhibit, too
One University Museum display may not seem to fit the typical description. The Army ROTC office in Founder’s Hall contains just such an exhibit. It is a collection of American Military awards.

Richard Norris of the University Museum put the display together for his post graduate certification in museum studies. The display includes the highest medal awarded by the government, the medal of honor.
The medal represents the medal awarded to Clyde Choate, who served in the Illinois Legislature where he sponsored legislation that enabled the creation of SIUE.
“The medals board was my project from start to finish as part of my post graduate certification in museum studies” said Norris. “I researched the personell that are or were affiliated with SIUE or Edwardsville and wrote the text panels that relate the information relevant to awarding of the award and the relationship with the school.”

Norris said the project took about three months. The medals on display are all part of the museum collection.
“The medals are from our collection of medals of the world and the museum has approximately 5,000 total from countries all over the world,” said Norris.
