PR professional panels: an opportunity for students to learn from the pros
Stacey Howard, instructor of speech communication, organized and hosted a series of informative panels led by public relations professionals last week.
The panels took place Dec. 6, 8 and 10 in Alumni Hall and featured a range of professionals sharing their wisdom and offering advice to students in Howard’s public relations classes.
Students listen intently as a panel of public relations professionals, invited by Speech Communication Lecturer Stacey Howard, share expert advice.
“These panels provide students an excellent opportunity to hear from professionals who work in varied public relations roles with non-profit, agency, corporate and other sectors,” said Howard.
The panelists on Dec. 6 were Holli Martin, president of Hype Creative; Jenny Stephens, communications manager at the National Children’s Cancer Society; Sue Reilmann, development director of Hospice of Southern Illinois; and Adam Young, broadcast announcer with the Gateway Grizzlies baseball team.
Featured on Dec. 8 were Hannah Buehler, SIUE student and intern at Brand Building Communications; Laura High, senior account executive at Weber Shandwick; Laura Reed, principal and PR director at Cork Tree Creative; and Kelly Harris, public relations director at the Hauser Group.
Rounding out the three-day professional panels on Dec. 10 were Elizabeth Keserauskis, executive director of marketing and communications at SIUE; Hailee Rummerfield, SIUE student and intern at Twist; Ken Steward, director of development and communications at Baptist Children’s Home & Family Services; and Mark Motley, vice president of communications at the Simmons Law Firm.
According to Howard, professionals were invited to offer their advice on networking, internships, writing skills and a range of other topics pertinent to students and their careers.
