The 2010 chancellor’s report to the university

On Oct. 28 Chancellor Vaughn Vandegrift made his report to the University, “Achieving National Recognition During the National Recession.”

He said that in the ongoing pursuit of national recognition by 2016, SIUE has increased the size of its incoming freshman class by 18 percent since 2005, making it the sixth largest of 12 institutions of higher learning in the state. Many efforts contribute to that campaign including a push by faculty and staff to bring in more grants and contracts, bumping to $29 million what was brought in last year, including $7.9 million for research. Nearly 40 percent of all full-time faculty have applied for and received grants and contracts.

Vandegrift also discussed the balanced budget for FY2011; the expectation of meeting payroll in spite of state-level economic difficulties; and a contingency plan for dealing with state-level cuts in the unlikely event they should come.
